A Cordless electric tea kettle is amongst the most popular type of kettles on sale today
The appeal of the cordless kettle is that it can be picked up after it has boiled, without the need to unplug it.
The kettles usually sit on a base which has electrical contacts connecting to the kettle. The kettle can be lifted straight off the base when it it ready to pour and placed straight back on the base afterwards. The electrical connections are not exposed when the kettle is lifted, so it is quite safe.
Almost all bases swivel, making the removal of the kettle from the base incredibly easy
There are a huge range of kettles on the market today. A couple of the more popular models being:
- Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless 1.7-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle
These currently retail for about $70 and are not the cheapest on the market. They feature a clean, beautiful design which is also very easy to clean, being made from stainless steel. The base is hefty and substancial and there is a place to wrap around the cord. This kettle boils in approximately 4 minutes for the 1.5 Litre capacity. It has a muted but easily heard "ping" sound when the water has come to the boil, and the kettle shuts off automatically.
- Aroma AWK-115S 1-1/2-Liter Hot H20 X-PressWater Kettle
These retail for about $30 and are amongst the cheapest on the market. Despite this they are a very popular kettle. The kettles are both visually attractive and functionally satisfactory. They boil very quickly and have a good sized handle that is comfortable. The spout is well designed so you don't spill water accidently when pouring. Like any stainless steel kettle the outside does get hot, however over the long term the colour will not change as a plastic based kettle will do.
